Meatloaf...

...is a fantastic artist. You know, most of the best songs every written never make it to the radio. Much of what you hear on the air are songs that "test well" with a certain audience of a certain demographic that a radio station tries to reach. In other words, songs that tend not to illicit negative feelings, but at the same time don't turn a listener into a raving lunatic filled with joy and excitement. Somewhere in the middle, that's where you get a good radio song. Being too vanilla is never a problem. A song that has "something different", however, never makes it to the air. It also helps if you're attractive. Physical looks should have no say on whether or not a song becomes a hit, but that's not how it goes.
So, Meatloaf is a fantastic artist. Most of his best songs don't fit the stereotypical radio mode...you know, the song that goes "verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus, chorus, chorus, end". Meatloaf's work is poetry.
If you think this a veiled knock on Nickelback, you'd be right.
